LSU basketball standout Angel Reese found herself at the center of attention after a brawl erupted during the SEC Women’s Tournament championship game between LSU and South Carolina.

The 21-year-old athlete, known for her skills on the court, made headlines not for her involvement in the fight but for her decision to walk away from the chaos.

Reese took to social media, posting a message on X (formerly Twitter), where she explained her stance on the incident.

“As a person at my STATUS, sometimes you have to walk away from certain situations,” Reese wrote.

She also revealed that she had already been dealing with an injury before the altercation.

“Mind you the play before that I had rolled my ankle AGAIN and was already walking to the bench,” she said, emphasizing her commitment to her team despite the circumstances.

The altercation began in the fourth quarter of the game when tensions flared between players from both teams.

South Carolina’s MiLaysia Fulwiley stole the ball from LSU’s Flau’jae Johnson, leading to an intentional foul call. Subsequently, a physical confrontation erupted, resulting in the ejection of six players, including Reese’s teammate Johnson and South Carolina’s Kamilla Cardoso, among others.

In the aftermath, Reese’s decision to disengage from the fight garnered attention and praise, highlighting her maturity and sportsmanship on and off the court.

While addressing the incident, LSU head coach Kim Mulkey and South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley both emphasized the need for better sportsmanship and control of emotions among players.

Reese’s actions serve as a reminder of the importance of composure and integrity in competitive sports, and her decision to walk away from the altercation showcases her leadership and commitment to setting a positive example for her teammates and fans alike.
