NFL draft hopeful Kyren Lacy has left his community reeling, including Angel Reese, who took to social media to mourn the heartbreaking loss.

The news just broke that former LSU Tigers wide receiver and NFL draft hopeful Kyren Lacy has tragically passed away at just 24 years old. The circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear, but early reports suggest a suspected suicide, leaving the LSU community and football world in shock.

Lacy, who recently participated in LSU’s Pro Day and was gunning for a shot at the NFL, was reportedly struggling with immense pressure. On top of the intense draft prep and personal goals, he was carrying the weight of a tragic hit-and-run incident in December 2024. He was facing legal proceedings related to the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall. He was scheduled to appear before a grand jury the very next day.

The timing is heartbreaking.

While no official confirmation has been released, multiple media outlets have reported that Lacy died by suspected suicide. Although the police investigation continues, the LSU family is already deeply mourning.

Angel Reese, known for her fierce loyalty to LSU, took to X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the news broke. She didn’t need many words. The pain was loud enough.

“Rip Kyrenso, sad, man.” She added, “Mental health is real. Check on your people! You never know what someone is going through!”

Fans flooded her mentions with prayers, broken heart emojis, and words of comfort, echoing the same sentiment that athletes look out for each other, and this loss feels personal.

Lacy’s journey had its highs. He stood tall at 6’2″, was known for his grit and athleticism, and pushed forward with his NFL dreams despite adversity. But life behind the highlight reel isn’t always easy, and in this case, it may have become unbearable.

In December 2024, Kyren Lacy was taken into custody and faced charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless driving. Authorities suspected that Lacy might have been responsible for the accident prior to escaping the scene. Lacy, who consistently proclaimed his innocence until his death, was granted release on a bond of $151,000.
