A Georgia mother has been arrested and charged with murder after police discovered the decomposing corpse of her 7-year-old daughter in a closet, the DeKalb County Police Department has confirmed.
Alondra Hobbs, 27, has been accused of felony murder and cruelty in the second degree in the death of Alivia Hobbs-Jordan. Before being detained, she was sent to a hospital where she currently remains until treated for injuries not released to the public.
“The suspect is currently in a local hospital and will be transported to the jail upon her release,” the DKPD told Law&Crime.
According to police records, Hobbs has been in and out of jail for several reasons. In one recent arrest, she was charged with simple assault and in another case she was arrested on one count of battery – family violence.
On Sunday, an officer found the corpse of the victim in a closet at the Hidden Valley Apartments on Misty Water Drive in Decatur, an Atlanta municipality.
“The comments on the call stated a 8-10 year old juvenile was deceased in the closet,” the report obtained by Law&Crime read. “The complainant did not give any further details and called from a disconnected cell phone.”
A neighbor had tipped the officer that a tenant had moved “a couple of months” and was never to be seen since.
“I checked the location and observed what appeared to be a juvenile female (approximately 2-4 years of age) deceased in the closet,” the officer wrote in the report. “I observed what appeared to be a full head of hair and decayed flesh that was in the form of an arm and leg.”
The case was then turned over to homicide investigators.
“The initial incident report lists Hobbs-Jordan’s mother, and another man, as other persons involved but contains no additional details,” according to Law&Crime. “The grim discovery of the young girl’s body shocked and outrage other tenants in the building and neighbors in the area.”
A witness who initially found the body before calling police told WXIA that the 7-year-old looked like a mummy.
“She looked like a real mummy,” he told the outlet on anonymity. “You could tell it was a young girl by what she had on and by her hair.”
He further stated that he arrived at the scene around 4:00 PM on June 25 and saw that the apartment door was wide open.
When he walked inside he noticed an unbearable stench and saw a human arm hanging out of the closet.
“I had to stand there for like a minute or two before I realized what it was,” the man said. “It’s a dead child.”
