EBIN NY, a brand once lauded for its products targeting the black consumer market, is now facing backlash over allegations of discrimination and unfair treatment of its employees of color.
The company stands accused of fostering a work environment rife with discriminatory practices, leading to the termination of employment for some unjustly.
Reports have surfaced detailing the troubling experiences of black employees within the company, highlighting instances of mistreatment and systemic bias.
These revelations have ignited calls for action against EBIN NY, with demands for accountability and justice for those affected by its discriminatory practices.
One former employee, who chose to be identified only as JJ, recounted her harrowing experience on Change.Org, citing instances of discrimination and emotional abuse that took a toll on her well-being.
She described feeling isolated and targeted by her colleagues, recounting incidents where her work was undermined and opportunities for advancement withheld.
Another employee, @miylifestyle, took to TikTok to share her ordeal, revealing how she was subjected to discrimination from the outset of her employment.
Despite her qualifications and efforts, she faced constant obstacles and hostility from coworkers, ultimately leading to her resignation.
“I was treated so horribly that I would go to the bathroom every day and cry. It got to the point where I just couldn’t take it anymore. That’s how bad it was,” she said.
She explained that she joined the EBIN NY Team after applying for and subsequently securing the position of Content Creator which was posted on LinkedIn.
“The first day that I went to work…they were showing me stuff, what websites they use. So before I left I made a video and I noticed that it was going viral within 3 hours…It was about 8pm and I realize the video was deleted…So I go to work the next morning and I was walking to my desk…and I ask my supervisor, ‘why did the video delete?’ They looked at me and said, ‘there were just too many negative comments’…but I go back on the accounts and I check; there were no negative comments,” she revealed.
She stated that since that day, everyone seemed to be in competition with her, trying hard to stifle her progress at the workplace.
“It was just like they were no longer willing to teach me anything, they were no longer trying to talk to me…I realized that since that day, they would just try to speak Korean all day in the office,” she recounted in the TikTok video captioned, ‘Speaking up because I’m tired of us staying silent and being treated poorly in the corporate world. #ebin #workplaceproblems’.
The outcry against EBIN NY is fast gaining momentum on TikTok and Change.org, where users are justifying the call for a boycott of the brand.
Videos and testimonials shared online have shed light on the company’s alleged discriminatory practices and galvanized a collective call for action.
@donicia.amorr made a TikTok video backing the call to boycott EBIN NY, saying:
“If we are going to boycott, I wanna know which products we are gonna be using because I am not gonna use Ebin products anymore. Anything Ebin, I’m not using that anymore…because how are you going to act like that to a black employee when your target [customers] are Black women? How does that make sense?”
On the Change.org website, a commentator named Kiara Colon also shared her unpleasant experience with EBIN NY:
“My friend was an employee here who was treated unfairly and described everything I’m reading here. I’m tired of companies soon this to the same people that give them profits. This has to stop.”
Bianca Pitman also wrote,
“I’m signing this petition because I was an employee of EBIN NY in 2018 and was treated unfairly to the point that I ended up quitting.”
Supporters of the boycott are urging EBIN NY to address its internal culture, implement measures to combat alleged discrimination and ensure fair treatment for all employees.
The boycott campaign seeks to hold the company accountable for its actions and send a clear message that discrimination in the workplace will not be tolerated.
