The hip-hop world is buzzing after Cardi B fired back at Kanye West following his unprovoked social media tirade, where he dismissed her career as irrelevant and claimed the industry “used” her.
Kanye West unleashed a barrage of tweets this week, targeting everyone from fellow artists to fashion rivals. But his dig at Cardi B raised eyebrows. “Where Cardi B gonna be 10 years from now? They used her,” he tweeted, adding that she “replaced Nicki Minaj” only to be “replaced by Megan Thee Stallion.” The comments baffled fans, given Cardi’s consistent chart dominance and cultural influence since her 2017 breakout.
Never one to stay silent, Cardi B clapped back with receipts. “7 years, 1 album. Still being a topic and still being asked about my music,” she tweeted, referencing her 2018 debut, Invasion of Privacy. This Grammy-winning project spawned hits like “Bodak Yellow” and “I Like It.” She doubled down on her loyal fanbase. “I’m anointed, and I have real fans. They come and go, but the brim [her fans] is still here and will stay.”
The retort struck a chord. Fans flooded social media with stats, including Cardi’s 14 Billboard Top 10 hits, 100+ award nominations, and her status as the first female rapper with two Diamond-certified singles.
This isn’t Ye’s first time targeting Cardi. In a leaked 2018 rant, he called her an “Illuminati plant” and claimed she doesn’t write her raps, reducing her artistry to “ignorant” lyrics. “Cardi B is a plant by the Illuminati,” Ye wrote then. “She don’t write her own raps. She just there to sound as ignorant as possible. And then makes songs like ‘f**k ’em and then get some money.'”
Other celebrities who have been a target of Kanye’s rant include Carti, Jim Jones, Future, Metro Boomin, Tyler, The Creator, Iggy, Doja Cat, Beyonce, and many more.
On Tuesday, Kanye went on a long and fiery posting spree on X, much of which has since been removed. He targeted Carti by referring to him as a “f*ggot” and a “woman beater.”
“IGGY I WAS SORRY FOR SPEAKING ON YOUR KID THAT WAS SOME F-GGOT ASS CARTI SHIT TO DO,” he wrote, referencing the past exchange with Carti’s former partner Iggy Azalea included a reference to their son Onyx.
