Grammy-nominated singer Kesha is standing firmly behind Cassie Ventura following a partial conviction against music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, whose trial has gripped the entertainment industry and the nation for months.
In a heartfelt social media post, Kesha called Ventura a “beacon for every survivor,” praising the singer and model’s bravery in speaking out against Combs.
Ventura’s explosive testimony during the trial and a now-infamous surveillance video of Combs assaulting her were pivotal in the federal case against him.
“Cassie is showing the world what courage looks like,” Kesha wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “She’s a beacon for every survivor who thought they wouldn’t be believed.”
A Turning Point in the Trial
Combs, who was arrested in September 2024, was found guilty on two counts on Wednesday, July 2 — including transportation to engage in prostitution, related to both Ventura and another woman identified only as “Jane.”
He was acquitted on three other charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking, but was denied bail and will remain in custody pending sentencing.
The nearly two-month trial featured 34 witnesses, including former girlfriends, bodyguards, employees, male escorts, and federal agents. The jury deliberated for four days before reaching a split verdict early Tuesday morning.
“We are satisfied that Mr. Combs is finally being held accountable in part for his actions,” said Ventura’s attorney following the verdict. “This is only the beginning.”
Kesha: From ‘Wake Up Like P. Diddy’ to ‘F— P. Diddy’
Kesha’s own relationship with the music industry has been marked by her legal battle against producer Dr. Luke, which resonated with many other survivors of abuse in the entertainment world.
In a 2023 Coachella performance, Kesha notably changed the lyrics of her 2009 mega-hit Tik Tok — originally featuring the line, “Wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy” — to “F— P. Diddy”, a shift that many fans now see as prescient.
The singer’s public alignment with Ventura demonstrates a growing wave of solidarity among women in the industry who are refusing to remain silent in the face of abuse.
As one industry insider noted, “This verdict doesn’t close the door — it opens it for others who’ve been silenced.”
