DL Hughley is not holding back in defending Vice President Kamala Harris following Janet Jackson’s controversial remarks about her race.

The “King of Comedy” unleashed on the pop icon in a series of tweets after her remarks about the vice president’s race went viral.

Janet Jackson questioned Kamala Harris’ race in an interview with The Guardian on Saturday, September 21. During the interview, the music icon seemed to question Harris’s racial identity, which has been a point of contention for some since the VP’s rise to prominence.

“Well, you know what they supposedly said?” Janet Jackson asked, referring to the Vice President’s mixed heritage. “She’s not Black — that’s what I heard, that she’s Indian.”

“Her father’s white,” the singer continued. That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days. I was told that they discovered her father was white.”

In a fiery X post, Hughley blasted the pop icon, writing, “#JanetJackson’s interview sounded like a #Trump rally! FYI!! It’s a little ironic to question whether someone is Black while you’re breathing through the nose of a white woman! #TeamDL.”

The scathing remark was directed at Janet Jackson’s appearance, claiming that she had undergone cosmetic surgery, which some critics suggest has altered her features over time.

But Hughley didn’t stop there. He continued his verbal takedown by adding, “All I know is #Kamala looks like she did when she was in Oakland! But Janet doesn’t look like she did when she was Penny! What the hell was in that iron??” This jab referenced Jackson’s role as Penny in the classic sitcom Good Times while also questioning her transformation since then.

The comedian’s comments sparked a flurry of online reactions, with fans and followers taking sides in the contentious debate. Some praised Hughley for defending Harris and highlighting what they saw as unjustified criticism of the Vice President’s identity.

Others, however, believed Hughley’s comments went too far, accusing him of body shaming and attacking another black woman.

Kamala Harris, who has long been proud of her biracial heritage, was born to Indian and Jamaican immigrants. She is the daughter of a Jamaican father and an Indian mother. The Democratic presidential candidate has often stated that her mother intentionally raised her and her sister as Black because of how the world would perceive them.
