A statistics website tracking the number of followers celebrities lose and gain has found that Doja Cat has lost more than half a million Instagram followers in a 30-day period.
News of the data, tracked by Social Blade, found that she lost the followers after sparking outrage for controversial actions, tweets and posts she’s made recently.
“The site shows that Doja lost just under 65,000 followers on the day her tweets were shared, and then a further 153,000 and more than 97,000 on the two days that followed,” according to Buzzfeed.
It all seemingly began when she called out some fans after they spoke their mind about her reported relationship with J. Cyrus.
In images that surfaced online, the 27-year-old Los Angeles native was seen yachting while kissing the comedian, which some said wasn’t a good look due to accusations of him engaging in grooming and sexual misconduct.
Social media users wanted Doja to address the accusations, but instead, she blocked some who spoke up and told people to stay out of her personal life.
“I WANT YALL TO READ THIS COMMENT AND TAKE IT AS A MESSAGE. I DONT GIVE A FUCK WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT MY PERSONAL LIFE I NEVER HAVE AND NEVER WILL GIVE A FUCK WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT ME OR MY PERSONAL LIFE GOODBYE AND GOOD RIDDANCE MISERABLE HOES HAHA!” she wrote.
She then shared on Threads that her fans were “creepy” and needed to “get a job.”
One user was able to screenshot a reply she wrote to someone who asked her to say she loves her fans. Instead, she wrote: “i don’t though cuz i don’t even know yall.”
Another user then responded: “and we don’t know you. but we have supported you through thick and thin. mind you you’d be NOTHING without us. you’d be working at a grocery store making songs on fucking garage band miss high school drop out.”
Doja responded: “nobody forced you idk why you’re talking to me like you’re my mother bitch you sound like a crazy person.”
Another fan, who uses Doja’s real name, Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, in her username, was told by the rapper that “you making my government name ur sn is creepy as fuck.”
She continued: “my fans don’t name themselves shit. if you call yourself a ‘kitten’ or fucking ‘kittenz’ that means you need to.”
Meanwhile, people on Twitter are calling the star “disrespectful” for teasing her new project without addressing her fans.
“Not her tryna drop music after disowning her audience,” one person wrote, while another person tweeted: “this shit better be fire for how disrespectful you’ve been to your entire fan base lately.”
“Read the room,” another wrote.
“but i thought ur fans were supposed to go help their parents and clean the house instead of streaming?” someone else added.
