Philadelphia native Quinta Brunson has received recognition from her alma mater, Temple University, with an honorary degree set to be conferred upon her.
The accomplished actress, comedian, and content creator is being honored for her outstanding contributions to the media industry, particularly in amplifying underrepresented voices in entertainment.
Brunson’s journey to success has been marked by perseverance and talent. She will first be presented with the 2024 Lew Klein Excellence in the Media Award, acknowledging her remarkable efforts in uplifting marginalized voices in the entertainment sphere. This prestigious accolade honors Brunson’s dedication to creating meaningful and impactful content.
She will address the graduates before being awarded the honorary degree during their 137th Commencement scheduled for May 8, 2024.
Before achieving fame, Brunson embarked on her academic journey at Temple University’s Klein College.
However, her path was not without challenges, as she encountered the closure of her major’s communications department during her first year.
Undeterred by this setback, Brunson demonstrated resilience and determination as she navigated her way through the entertainment industry.
Brunson honed her skills and built her portfolio while working at Buzzfeed, where she showcased her creativity and comedic talent.
Her breakthrough came in 2019 when she wrote and starred in “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” earning widespread acclaim for her contributions to the groundbreaking series.
Building on her success, Brunson secured a significant deal with ABC to develop and star in “Abbott Elementary,” a comedy series centered around teachers in the Philadelphia public school system. This latest endeavor further solidifies Brunson’s status as a trailblazer in the entertainment landscape.
