Dr. Ebony Jade Hilton Buchholz, a native of Little Africa, South Carolina, has emerged as a beacon of excellence and advocacy in the medical field.
Born in a rural town, Dr. Hilton’s journey to becoming a trailblazing physician and community leader is marked by resilience and dedication.
At the age of 8, Dr. Hilton expressed her ambition to become a doctor, inspired by a family tragedy. Supported by her mother’s unwavering encouragement, she pursued her dreams with determination.
Graduating from Spartanburg High School in 2000, Dr. Hilton went on to achieve academic excellence at the College of Charleston, earning three degrees in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Inorganic Chemistry.
Continuing her academic journey, Dr. Hilton pursued medical studies at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).
After completing her residency and fellowship at MUSC, she made history by becoming the first African-American female anesthesiologist to be hired at the institution since its establishment in 1824.
Throughout her career, Dr. Hilton has been a staunch advocate for health equity, particularly focusing on addressing racial disparities in healthcare. Bridging the gap between physicians and patients, she has dedicated herself to improving access to quality healthcare for marginalized communities.
