Summer Walker and Sexyy Red are under fire after dishing out controversial relationship advice during the debut episode of “Over It Radio,” Summer Walker’s new podcast in collaboration with Apple Music. The conversation, which took a turn toward questionable territory, left fans buzzing and criticizing their perspectives on cheating and relationships.
The segment kicked off when a caller, Angel Carning from Chicago, shared her struggle with her boyfriend of nine years, who had cheated on her multiple times — including with her so-called “best friend.” Despite the betrayal, the caller revealed she saw her boyfriend as her “future husband” and admitted her fear of being single kept her from walking away.
Sexyy Red, known for her bold and unapologetic takes, wasted no time sharing her stance. “She said twice? You’ve been together nine years, and he cheated only twice? Girl, take that man back. It’s okay. Men are going to cheat. They are gonna do that,” Sexyy Red advised without hesitation.
Summer Walker chimed in to agree, although her tone carried a note of conflict. “I mean, people shouldn’t be accepting that, but you’re right like literally, two times is nothing,” she admitted before pivoting slightly. “But, friend, we can’t sound like this. We have to work on ourselves and accept better.”
However, Sexyy Red wasn’t swayed, doubling down on her point. “If you get with the next dude, they gon’ cheat too. It’s like, ‘I should’ve stayed with the last dude.'”
Despite attempting to temper the conversation, Summer ended up echoing a similar sentiment, adding, “No, I totally agree with you. They are all off, and they all act like that. But there are some people who genuinely feel like there are men who don’t cheat… But no, babe, they are all cheating. So I say go back.”
Sexyy Red added a final nuance to her advice, clarifying, “If he crossed the line with who he cheated with, that’s different.”
While the two artists appeared to be speaking candidly, their comments sparked immediate backlash on social media, with many fans accusing them of normalizing toxic relationships and reinforcing harmful stereotypes about men and fidelity.
“This generation is doomed if these the role models,” a fan pointed out.
Another added, “Cheating is one thing, but with a friend and at the place where y’all both lay your head is the ultimate disrespect. And all men don’t cheat!!!”
“9 years as a girlfriend is diabolical,” another fan commented.
Should cheating ever be normalized, or is it time to demand better in love and relationships?
