Gayle King is making one thing clear: her love story is still unwritten, and she’s perfectly comfortable saying so out loud.

During a recent appearance at Time magazine’s annual A Year in TIME event in New York City, the longtime “CBS Mornings” co-anchor revealed that she is actively “looking” for her own “great love story,” according to People. The candid admission came during a conversation with WNBA superstar A’ja Wilson, who spoke about maintaining a strong relationship with NBA player Bam Adebayo despite their demanding careers and busy travel schedules.

King, 70, appeared inspired by Wilson’s reflections on partnership and showing up for one another, using the moment to share that she, too, remains open to love and hopeful about what the future might bring.

The comments followed a very different public discussion about King’s romantic life just weeks earlier, one she did not initiate. In October, King was forced to address viral rumors claiming she had secretly gotten engaged or married after AI-generated images of her in wedding attire began circulating online. The fabricated photos, complete with a prominent ring, were convincing enough to spark widespread congratulatory messages from fans, friends, and even her own children.

“Been getting a lot of texts, a lot of messages, stories online that I got engaged,” King said on “CBS Mornings” at the time. “There’s a lucky man. I have no idea who he is.”

King explained that the images were entirely fake, underscoring how realistic and misleading artificial intelligence technology has become. “These AI-generated images have been making their way across the internet,” she said, before clarifying her status once and for all. “I’m not married, not even engaged.”

The misinformation spread so widely that King found herself reading aloud a fictional report describing a supposed mystery partner who was allegedly a low-profile business leader with a philanthropic streak. Playing along, she joked, “Where is he? I would like to see you, sir! Show yourself!”

Even her children were momentarily confused. “He’s so lucky,” she recalled them saying, before asking, “Mom, who is this?”

Despite the humor, King left no room for ambiguity. “I’m not married or engaged,” she insisted. “Believe me, if I was, you’d hear it here first.” Her co-host Nate Burleson summed it up with a grin: Gayle King is very much single and still open to love.
