Gelila Bekele, Tyler Perry’s former longtime girlfriend and mother of his child, will play a role as a co-director in an upcoming documentary about Perry.
The iconic filmmaker will soon have his life and career explored in a documentary set to be released next month. The film is titled “Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story”.
The documentary takes a deep dive into Perry’s illustrious career and touches on his challenging upbringing in New Orleans, Louisiana.
It pays tribute to Perry’s late mother, Willie Maxine Perry, who passed away in 2009.
Gelila Bekele recently shared her emotions about the documentary in an Instagram post. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to direct a film they had worked on for nearly a decade and thanked Tyler Perry for allowing them to tell his story.
She posted the following on Instagram:

“Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story” is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on November 17. While Tyler Perry and Gelila Bekele are no longer together, they share a young son named Aman.
The documentary provides an intimate look into Tyler Perry’s journey from a challenging upbringing to becoming a legendary figure in the entertainment industry, best known for his iconic character, “Madea.”
The film features appearances by figures like Oprah and David Oyelowo, highlighting the impact of Perry’s career on the world of entertainment.
