After formalizing her skills at the Shirly Little Cosmetology school in 1995, Sonia garnered diverse experiences in multiple salons, establishing herself as a sought-after hairstylist known for excellence.
In 2007, Sonia took a bold step into entrepreneurship, founding Hair by Sonia with a philosophy that hair care is not just an option but a standard of excellence.

Balancing her entrepreneurial venture with a full-time role as a Social Insurance Specialist at the Social Security Administration, Sonia exemplifies dedication to both her passions.
Her commitment to public service, highlighted by her tenure at the Mississippi Department of Human Services from 1993 to 2006, underscores her mission to make a positive impact.
Sonia’s educational journey, marked by a BA in English Literature from Alcorn State University in 1993 and further studies in Guidance Counseling at Jackson State University in 2007, reflects her dedication to personal and professional growth.
A pivotal moment in Sonia’s career occurred in 2020 when she became a certified Trichologist, positioning her as a specialist in the science of hair and scalp health. This certification fueled her desire to address common hair concerns, leading to the introduction of the Hair by Sonia Preventative Line in December 2023.
