Actress and producer Issa Rae is making new waves again – this time after announcing that she has named Scottie Beam and Sylvia Obell to join her as co-hosts for her upcoming talk show under Raedio, the audio subsidiary of Rae’s company, Horrae.
According to Variety, The Scottie & Sylvia Show is scheduled to air in July and “will discuss trending and cultural topics accompanied by celebrity interviews from their unique perspective as Black Millennial women.”
This isn’t the first time the pair have worked together. Before inking the new deal, the media personalities worked together on their Okay, Now Listen podcast.
“Scottie and Sylvia are so raw and relatable and I’m such a fan of their effortless, hilarious chemistry,” the Insecure creator and actress told Variety. “I’m so grateful they chose Raedio as their podcast home.”
For over a decade, Scottie and Sylvia have made a lasting impact in the industry who have both risen the ranks to become veterans in the game. Scottie was formerly a HOT 97 producer and co-founder of REVOLT’s State of the Culture, while Sylvia served as a staff reporter at BuzzFeed, Essence and other leading media outlets.
“To be able to do this with a Black woman-owned company that values cultural impact, knew our worth from the jump, and can give us the resources we need, feels amazing and exactly in line with what we value most and what our vision is for the show,” Sylvia said.
The Scottie & Sylvia Show will join the ranks of other successful shows on Raedio, including Fruit, Looking For Latoya and We Stay Looking.
Born Jo-Issa Rae Diop, Rae first burst onto the scene as the creator of the widely-successful YouTube web series Awkward Black Girl. She has since gone on to create short films, web series, TV shows and other content created by Black people.
Congratulations, Issa, Scottie and Sylvia!
