A Kingston business owner was gunned down at her establishment last Friday in what police are investigating as a targeted attack.

According to the Jamaica Observer, 47-year-old Kayon Adamson, the owner of Whirl-Away Bar on Grove Road, was fatally shot by an unknown assailant at approximately 5:10 p.m. Reports indicate that Adamson was inside her bar when a lone gunman entered and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

Residents who heard the gunfire immediately alerted authorities. Upon arrival, officers from the Half-Way Tree Police Station discovered Adamson behind the bar counter, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the head. She was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police Investigation Underway

Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into Adamson’s murder, though no suspects have been identified at this time. Authorities have not disclosed a potential motive, but sources note that Adamson’s killing comes nearly 11 years after her boyfriend, Delroy Thompson, was murdered in the same area.

Thompson, who previously co-owned the bar with Adamson, was chased and shot dead on nearby Kew Road.

The police are urging anyone with information regarding the attack to come forward as they work to determine whether there is a connection between the two murders.

Adamson’s killing adds to growing concerns about violent crime targeting business owners in Jamaica. The attack has left the local community in shock, with residents calling for increased security measures in commercial areas.

Authorities continue to appeal to the public for assistance as they work to bring those responsible to justice.
