Veteran MSNBC anchor Joy-Ann Reid is sounding the alarm on what she calls the “BBL Bill”—a massive spending plan backed by Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers that, she warns, will devastate essential services for everyday Americans while enriching the ultra-wealthy.
In a fiery video posted to social media this week, Reid broke down what she calls the “BB OMS” or “Big Billionaire Looting Bill,” warning that it will “gut everything that helps regular people”—from Medicaid and food stamps to Head Start and Meals on Wheels.
“Y’all are getting lied to,” Reid says. “They’re coming for your healthcare, your school lunches, rural hospitals, even Meals on Wheels—so they can give Trump and his billionaire friends a permanent tax cut.”
What’s in the Bill, According to Reid
According to Reid, the proposed legislation would:
- Slash Medicaid and programs under the Affordable Care Act, affecting millions who rely on subsidized healthcare;
- Eliminate or reduce food assistance programs like SNAP and school lunch programs;
- Cut farm subsidies and let rural hospitals close due to lack of funding;
- Increase funding for the military to build ships (which Reid sarcastically suggests might be named after Confederate generals);
- Expand private prisons and ICE, with a potential surge in immigration enforcement;
- Fail to deliver on campaign promises like eliminating taxes on tips or lowering rent.
“Don’t believe the lie that undocumented immigrants are the reason your Medicaid is on the chopping block,” she added. “Undocumented people can’t get Medicaid. If you’re on Obamacare, you’re on Medicaid—and they’re coming for you.”
Call to Action: Contact Congress
Reid is urging the public to take immediate action by calling their elected officials:
She told viewers:
“Google who your congressman is. Contact them on their website or call the switchboard. This affects YOU.”
BBL Bill: Real Name Still Unclear, But Alarm Bells Are Ringing
While “BB OMS” isn’t an official title, Reid uses it as a stand-in to describe the economic priorities taking shape in Washington under Republican leadership and backed by Donald Trump’s political allies.
The initiative appears to echo ideas outlined in Project 2025, a far-right policy blueprint aiming to restructure the federal government in favor of corporate deregulation, tax cuts, and expanded executive power.
Who’s Affected? Everyone, Reid Says
“If you’re one of the millions on Medicaid through an ACA exchange and don’t realize it’s called Medicaid in your state, they’re taking your healthcare,” Reid warned.
She also cautioned against social media disinformation, particularly claims that cuts would only hurt undocumented immigrants.
“That’s bull,” she said bluntly. “They know many of y’all won’t vote—and they’re counting on it.”
