Kehlani’s parenting is under scrutiny as the singer’s ex-partner, Javaughn Young-White, seeks custody of their child, Adeya Nomi, alleging that the singer’s lifestyle is an endangerment to the child.
In 2021, Kehlani claimed Javaughn Young-White was “super supportive’ When she came out as a lesbian.
The “Icy Girl” collaborator revealed on April 22, 2021, through a TikTok video. “I am gay gay gay gay,” the rapper-singer stated, adding that she identifies as non-binary and uses the she/they pronoun.
Kehlani split from Young-White in 2020 due to cheating allegations, which she appears to address in the song “Valentine’s Day (Shameful).”
In the song, she refers to a “villain” who called her “crazy” but says they mean “nothing to me.”
Four years later, Javaughn Young-White is taking legal action against Kehlani over her sexual preferences.
Musician Javaughn Young-White, who welcomed daughter Adeya with the R&B star in 2019, filed his custody petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court on July 24, according to court documents obtained on Monday.
Young-White is demanding full custody of Adeya and a psychological exam for Kehlani, citing the singer’s mental health issues and alleged association with a “cult.”
Young-White claims in the filing, “The main reason that I am filing this petition is that [Kehlani] has been involved in this cult for the past few years, and it appears that this cult controls her actions and her behavior, including when it comes to the upbringing of our daughter.”
“I am not here to disparage (Kehlani),” he continued. “However, the environment that she has created for herself is not the type of environment that a child should be living and therefore, I bring myself to the mercy and wisdom of the court to save my daughter before it is too late.”
The “Crash” singer’s ex claims he was barred from seeing Adeya for months after the cult’s alleged leader, Neto, told Kehlani he had a vision that Young-White “was a danger to our daughter and would kill her.”
The filing continues, “For example, the cult leader, who goes by the name of Neto, convinced Respondent that he had a vision that I was a danger to our daughter and would kill her, and thereafter banned Respondent from allowing me to see Adeya. Based on this ‘vision’ by her cult leader, Respondent prevented me from seeing our daughter for months.”
Young-White also claimed that their daughter is left in the care of cult members while Kehlani is on tour. He accused Neto of performing “religious ceremonies” on Adeya and another cult member, Messiah, of bathing with the 5-year-old “while being under the influence of psychedelic drugs.”
Kehlani is a member of the Regla de Ocha religion, also known as Santería.
