The actions of 9-year-old North West in a recent TikTok video have raised concerns from many, including her father Kanye West, who says the social media platform is using her.
In the video, North is seen wearing a curly orange wig while dancing in a white tracksuit with the word “juicy” written across the posterior. She is also seen wearing an icy chain similar to the chain rapper Ice Spice (who she is emulating in the video) wore when they both appeared together in a TikTok video last week.
For 15 seconds, North is seen mouthing lyrics to the popular Ice Spice and PinkPantheress Boy’s A Liar Pt 2, which includes the lyrics “Sayin’ he home, but I know where he at, like / Bet he blowin’ her back / Thinkin’ ’bout me ’cause he know that it’s fat.” She then proceeds to show her backside while swaying from left to right.
The video has since circulated online and has caused an uproar among users who believe Kim Kardashian is exhibiting poor parenting skills. Kardashian’s ex-husband and father to North also chimed in expressing disdain about why his child’s mother would allow her to record promiscuous videos of herself and post them on the internet.
“I just got off the phone with Kim and I told her stop antagonizing me with this TikTok thing,” West said in a video posted online. “I am a father. I know you all don’t respect fathers and the idea of family and the media trying to promote something…I am not allowing my daughter to be used by TikTok…to be used by Disney. I have a say so.”
The video has spawned discourse from others as well. Some suggested that people were overreacting about the video.
“Seeing people upset that North West knows who Ice Spice is and is listening to that music at that age is kinda funny because when I was her age I absolutely knew all 32 flavors of that bootylicious bubblegum,” one user wrote.
“if a little boy dressed up as any one of these male rappers that not only have songs w vulgar lyrics but some even ALLEGATIONS, y’all wouldn’t have as much to say as y’all do w north west dressing like ice spice,” another tweeted.
But others were disgraced by the 9-year-old’s actions.
“A broke clock is right twice a day.” Kanye was right about not wanting is daughter on Tik Tok. Now she’s dressing like Ice Spice, & reciting lyrics like, “Bet he blowin her back”. Just a reminder: North West is NINE YEARS OLD!” one chimed in.
Since the clip went viral, North’s TikTok account, which she shares with her mother, has disabled followers from commenting on the post.
