After months of swirling rumors, Lizzo has officially opened up about trying Ozempic. And yes, some fans are now giving her serious side-eye.
The “Truth Hurts” singer made the revelation during a candid appearance on the Just Trish podcast, where she opened up about her weight loss journey, her former vegan diet, and the pressures of navigating health, body positivity, and public perception all at once.
“I did try Ozempic,” Lizzo admitted. “But it’s not a long-term solution for me.” She explained that while the drug curbs your appetite, the real key is still making healthy food choices. “Ozempic works because you eat less food, yeah? But if you can just [control your diet] on your own and get mind over matter, it’s the same thing.”
This came as a surprise to many, especially those who had closely followed her fitness journey. Lizzo has long credited her transformation to weightlifting, intense workouts, and a cleaner diet. In fact, back in September 2024, she shut down Ozempic rumors entirely, insisting her results came from hard work and healthy habits. So naturally, fans are feeling some type of way.
On social media, the reaction was instant and divided.
Some fans praised her honesty, saying, “Good for her for admitting it!” Others, however, weren’t as kind, accusing the pop star of misleading them. “So she was lying the whole time?” one user wrote. “I supported her because I thought it was all natural.” Another added, “You can’t be the face of body positivity and then quietly take weight loss drugs.”
But Lizzo isn’t here for the shaming. In the interview, she made it clear that using medication to lose weight isn’t “cheating,” and those who say it is might want to check their own internalized fatphobia. “People who criticize weight loss drugs are usually just fatphobic,” she said bluntly.
The Grammy winner also revealed that she recently hit a major milestone, fitting into a size she hadn’t worn since 2014. “I will still be considered morbidly obese on the BMI, and little bros on the internet are still going to call me ‘big backed,’ but I will be happy,” she said with a laugh.
Lizzo also shared how going off her vegan diet actually played a huge role in her progress. Despite her good intentions, she said her plant-based lifestyle left her constantly hungry, requiring her to consume 3,000 to 5,000 calories per day.
“What (caused weight loss) for me was not being vegan,” she said. “I was eating a lot of fake meats, bread, and rice… and I had to eat a lot of it to stay full.”
Switching to whole foods and lean meats, she says, helped her stay satisfied while maintaining a calorie deficit.
Despite the backlash, many fans came to her defense, pointing out that Ozempic alone wouldn’t have led to the transformation she achieved and that health journeys are deeply personal.
