A newly released arrest affidavit is shining new light into the death of Kayla Kelley, who was reported missing on Jan. 11 and found dead in a field in Texas one week later.

According to the document, Kelley reportedly went missing when she discovered that her boyfriend Ocastor Ferguson was married. At the time they were dating, she thought his name was Kevin.

After finding out that Ferguson was married, she told friends that she was going to “blackmail” him, according to the affidavit, which also found that his wife had reported her vehicle was stolen. Detectives would soon find her vehicle near Kelley’s home. Investigators also found duct tape and gloves in the vehicle, according to the document.

“On Jan. 13, investigators spoke to Ferguson, who admitted he was dating Kelley, but said the last time he saw her was the previous Tuesday when he dropped her off at work. Ferguson told investigators she did not come back to pick him up like they had planned,” according to a FOX 4 News report. “On Jan. 14, an analysis of Ferguson’s phone records showed him in the area of Frisco where investigators found Kelley’s burned-out car on a dead-end, dirt county road.”

Ferguson was arrested and charged with kidnapping the day he was found. After further investigation, his phone records revealed that he left work on Jan. 10 and went to a wooded area near his residence in Grand Prairie, the affidavit states. When detectives went to the area, they found the victim’s body in a grave.

The medical examiner’s office in Tarrant County has yet to reveal the cause of Kelley’s death, but authorities say phone records show that the suspect was near the area where her body was found along with the burned vehicle. Surveillance footage also shows smoke in the early morning hours the day she died.

Records show that Ferguson then ordered to be picked up using a ride share service and went back home.

Ferguson has been formally charged with kidnapping, arson and murder and is awaiting trial while detained at the Collin County Jail.
