Porsha Williams Guobadia’s husband, Simon Guobadia, has reacted to his wife’s divorce request in a way that is raising eyebrows on the internet.
The reality star filed to annul her marriage just fifteen months after tying the knot with her billionaire Nigerian husband, Simon Guobadia.
After the shock of the news wore off, many took to social media to say they did not believe the divorce was “real”.
Remember that a few weeks ago, Simon Guobadia faced immigration issues, including overstaying visas, illegally obtaining a green card, and being rejected for citizenship by the U.S. government.
According to Atlanta publications, Guobadia reportedly pleaded guilty to bank and credit-card fraud too.
The divorce filing also follows Porsha Williams’ announcement last week that she will return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta for the show’s 16th season.
In the video, she announced her “next chapter” on the famous show as “Porsha Guobadia”.
Shortly after news of their divorce went viral, Simon Guobadia had a message for all who care about his soon-to-expire marriage.
The Nigerian businessman shared a short, powerful message on his Instagram stories. “Will stop loving my wife when the divorce is final,” he wrote.
This message seems to have confirmed many views on the probability that the divorce is just a scheme to transfer his funds to Williams as he battles the American legal system.
According to several media outlets, Guobadia was denied US citizenship due to his criminal past, involving several felonies for financial fraud, credit card fraud, and identity theft.
“They’re not really breaking up. This is some type of scheme,” a user mentioned.
Another pointed out, “It’s giving Divorce in America but really married in Nigeria.”
One social media user wrote, “I think This is code for we’re not getting a real divorce, it’s only for legal reasons. We are still married in Nigeria.”
Porsha Williams and Simon Guobadia started dating in April 2021, and within a month, they announced that they were engaged.
The couple married twice in Atlanta in November 2022, once in a Nigerian traditional native law and custom ceremony and then again in an American ceremony the next day.
The plush celebration in Atlanta had approximately 350 guests, including Bravolebrities like RHOA‘s Kandi Burruss, Kim Zolciak-Biermann, Drew Sidora, Cynthia Bailey, and Monyetta Shaw.
