Emmy-winning Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson has filed for divorce from her husband, Kevin Anik, after three and a half years of marriage, according to legal documents obtained by the media.
The pair, who wed in 2021 after a 2020 engagement, cited “irreconcilable differences” in the Los Angeles County Superior Court filing.
Quinta Brunson, 34, and Kevin Anik managed to keep their relationship largely out of the public eye, rarely sharing details about their marriage on social media or in interviews. The couple, who do not have children together, quietly tied the knot during the pandemic, aligning with Brunson’s rising stardom as Abbott Elementary catapulted her into the spotlight. The ABC mockumentary she created, wrote, and starred in has earned critical acclaim, multiple Emmy Awards, and a devoted fanbase.
Quinta expressed her gratitude to Kevin when she received an Emmy Award in 2022, which many noted as the first public acknowledgment of their marriage. She thanked him again when she won the Emmy for Best Comedy Actress in September.
While accepting the Emmy for writing for a comedy series, Brunson dubbed her husband “the most supportive man I’ve ever known.”
According to the filing, Quinta Brunson and Kevin Anik have a postnuptial agreement in place, which she has asked the court to honor when dividing their assets. Postnuptial agreements, while less common than prenups, are legally binding contracts outlining asset distribution in the event of a divorce. The existence of such an agreement suggests the couple took steps to protect their individual interests during their marriage, potentially streamlining the legal process.
Her legal filing to the Los Angeles Superior Court indicates that the couple has a post-marital agreement regarding the division of their assets in the event of a divorce. Since they do not have any children together, the divorce process should be quite simple, allowing them to keep information about the separation confidential.
As the ABC sitcom gained critical acclaim, Quinta acknowledged her partner for being “the greatest support” and for having “no reason to overshadow” her successes.
“That allows me to love him fully,” she told Business Insider in November 2022, “and be the person that I want to be and am meant to be.”
