Rachel Lindsay, known for her trailblazing role as the first Black lead on The Bachelorette, recently opened up about the struggles she faced in her marriage and the pressures of maintaining a picture-perfect relationship in the public eye.
In a candid interview on The View, Lindsay revealed that she is currently navigating a divorce from her husband, whom she met during her time on The Bachelor.
The couple’s relationship, which lasted over two years before marriage, was celebrated as one of the franchise’s success stories.
However, Lindsay shared that the reality behind the scenes was more complex.
“You feel the public pressure to always let people know that everything’s great, even though behind closed doors that might not be the case,” she admitted.
The scrutiny from fans and media compounded the challenges.
“Anywhere I went, people would ask me about my relationship—how are you doing? When are you having kids?” Lindsay recounted, explaining how societal expectations can create a sense of shame when a relationship falters.
Reflecting on the relationship’s trajectory, Lindsay acknowledged she saw red flags even before the marriage but tried to push through.
“As women, we’re fixers. We think we can figure it out,” she said. Within two years, the cracks became more evident.
Despite the pain of ending her marriage, Lindsay spoke of reclaiming her sense of self.
“You can take your power back; you can find your power within,” she encouraged viewers.
While addressing the unique challenges of navigating a relationship in the digital age, Lindsay noted the difficulty of dealing with her partner’s actions on social media.
The heartfelt conversation highlighted Lindsay’s journey of resilience and self-discovery.
“Your identity becomes wrapped up in the relationship, and you’re afraid that’s the only way people see you,” she said. “But I’m here to tell you, it’s not.”
