A chilling real-life account shared by digital creator Bella Newberry (@truecrimewithbella) has social media users drawing comparisons to Jordan Peele’s Get Out — and sounding the alarm on dating while Black in the Deep South.
In a viral post originally shared on Facebook and X and later highlighted on Bella’s Instagram page, an unnamed Black man recounted a harrowing experience after going on a date with a white woman in Mississippi.
What started as a promising interracial romance quickly unraveled into something far more disturbing.
According to the screenshots and messages shared, the white woman texted the man after their first date, saying:
“I definitely enjoyed our night out, but I don’t think my parents can find out about us… They despise Black guys.”
She revealed that her last Black boyfriend had been allegedly framed and jailed for life — and even urged him to “Google ….Wellington.” She expressed concern for the man’s safety, saying:
“I don’t want anything to happen to you.”

Despite her warning, the couple moved forward with meeting her parents. But what happened next could be straight out of a horror script.
After dinner, the man reportedly accessed her phone and found a disturbing text exchange between her and her mother.
“… he seems well put together but it’s something about him me and Jeff [stepdad] don’t approve of… He seems like he would be good around the house for things we need, but not for a relationship.”
The mother’s message went on to say:
“Try to convince him to start working for us… Once we take a trip to the mountains this summer, well, you know the rest.”
Even more unsettling? The woman responded with:
“Mom, I really like him. Can I at least keep him? He’s very sweet.”
“Not at all. Dating a Black guy in the South, especially Mississippi, is not recommended. Do as you’re instructed, please.”

The man says he quietly left and never contacted her again — and to this day, she allegedly doesn’t know he saw the messages.
Bella Newberry, who frequently highlights unsettling true crime and social issues, summed it up best in her post:
“This is literally insane that this is a true story.”
For many, the situation is terrifying, deeply racist, and eerily similar to Get Out.
While ShineMyCrown.com has not independently confirmed the story, it has sparked widespread debate about racism, fetishization, and danger in interracial dating, particularly in historically segregated areas like Mississippi.
