Dallas native and sprinting sensation Sha’Carri Richardson returned to her roots for a special homecoming as the track at John Kincaide Stadium was officially named in her honor.

At just 23 years old, Richardson has already made history as the fastest woman in the world, and on Friday night, her hometown celebrated her achievements with a dedication ceremony during a football game between Carter High School and Wilmer-Hutchins.

Dallas ISD broke tradition by naming the track after Richardson, a former Carter track star, marking a rare occasion where a sports figure receives such an honor so early in their career.

The dedication followed her incredible performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she secured a gold medal in the 4x100m relay and a silver medal in the 100 meters.

During the unveiling, Richardson expressed her gratitude to the Dallas community, which has supported her since the beginning of her journey.

“This is where I come from,” Richardson said. “Thank you for supporting me no matter how far I go.”

The event was attended by Dallas ISD Superintendent Stephanie S. Elizalde, who praised Richardson for being an inspiration.

“Sha’Carri, you have often said your grandmother is your superwoman,” Elizalde noted. “Dallas ISD says thank you for being all of our superwoman.”

Richardson’s athletic journey began at Carter High School, where she broke records in the 100m and 200m events at the state level before heading to LSU, where she captured the NCAA Division I title.

Her rise to fame has inspired countless young athletes in Dallas and beyond.

In addition to the stadium honor, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson declared November 10, 2023, as Sha’Carri Richardson Day, further cementing her legacy in the city she calls home.

“It’s an honor, but it also shows that I have a responsibility to Dallas and DISD,” Richardson said, acknowledging the significance of the moment and her continued connection to the community. “I think people forget where I come from and that’s Dallas. That’s where I get my heart. That’s where I get my mind-set.”
