Aanvi Kamdar, a 27-year-old travel influencer, tragically died after falling 300 feet into a gorge at the Kumbhe waterfall in India while filming an Instagram reel.
The accident occurred on Tuesday, July 16, while Kamdar was visiting the scenic spot, located about 80 miles from Mumbai, with seven friends.
Local police confirmed the incident, reporting that Kamdar lost her footing on a slippery patch of rocks and fell into the valley.
“She fell on the hard, slippery patch of rocks around 300 feet into the valley and couldn’t be spotted initially,” a rescuer told The Economic Times.
The complex rescue operation involved six rescuers climbing down the hill and another 50 assisting from above. Kamdar was eventually retrieved using a stretcher attached to rappelling ropes, taking about six hours to complete the rescue.
Kamdar was initially responsive and was placed on a ventilator but, tragically, she succumbed to her injuries later that afternoon at Mangaon Taluka Government Hospital, according to The Economic Times.
Authorities stated that Kamdar, an accountant by profession, was actively recording content for her popular Instagram account when the fatal accident occurred.
Known for her travel tips and stunning visuals, Kamdar had amassed 285,000 followers on the social media platform.
Her final post, shared on Monday, July 15, featured her top five places to visit in India during the rainy season.
Kamdar’s untimely death highlights the risks associated with creating social media content in precarious locations.
This incident follows the death of another influencer, fitness enthusiast Giorgi “Tzane” Janelidze, who died in March after slipping from a balcony and falling into a ravine in Calabria, Italy, while filming content for social media.
