Two Los Angeles-based mothers, Dr. Anndretta Lyle and Stacy Kirk, have joined forces to create Thrive Culture Box, an innovative subscription service designed to help children aged four and older celebrate and explore Black culture.
The monthly activity boxes, which include hands-on materials and online lessons, aim to foster creativity, confidence, and a deeper understanding of Black history in families across the U.S.
The debut series highlights the contributions of Black inventors, blending history with engaging activities.
“This one is so thrilling — it’s all about Black inventors who shaped history,” explained Stacy Kirk, co-creator of Thrive Culture Box. “Kids dive into an interactive course with physical tools and games, learning about groundbreaking figures like the inventor of the traffic light or pioneers in medicine and technology. Did you know a Black inventor perfected the recipe for ice cream?”
Dr. Anndretta, a tenured professor and educator, brings her expertise in Black Studies and Performance Studies to the project. Her inspiration stemmed from years of hearing students ask:
“Why wasn’t I taught this sooner?”
She previously launched the Black Arts and Performance Summer Day Camp, which has drawn families nationwide and remains in high demand.
Thrive Culture Box, however, offers a scalable solution to meet the growing need for cultural education.
Stacy Kirk, a tech entrepreneur and founder of QualityWorks, emphasized the project’s accessibility.
“It’s not just about having a great idea—it’s about making it accessible to as many people as possible,” she said. “Thrive Culture Box ensures families everywhere can introduce their children to Black history and culture while sparking innovation and pride in their heritage.”
Each box includes instructional videos, physical materials, and step-by-step activities.
