Rashida Nicole’s new husband, LiAngelo Ball, also known as Gelo, has filed for divorce after she publicly announced they’re expecting a baby together.
The former basketball player-turned-rapper, known to many as Gelo, is making headlines again, but not for his career. This time, it’s for a whirlwind marriage, a surprise pregnancy, and a sudden divorce filing, all within a matter of months.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Gelo filed the paperwork on July 3 in Southern California. That’s just one week after Rashida Nicole shared the news of her pregnancy on Instagram on June 26, complete with pastel tones, a glowing bump reveal, and a caption straight out of a baby book. Gelo even liked the post and commented with a lock, heart, and key emoji.
The couple got married on March 24, marking what many thought was a fresh start for the 25-year-old baller-turned-rapper. Rashida, a beauty influencer and social media personality, was stepping into the spotlight as his new partner just as his previous relationship with Love & Hip Hop star Nikki Mudarris was crashing and burning.
Nikki, who shares two children with Ball, publicly accused him of abandoning their family shortly after the birth of their second baby.
“I see everyone has been sending me @gelo cheating on me. I want to clear this up and speak my truth. I am just as surprised as you are,” she wrote. “We spent 3 1/2 years together, and last week he decided to walk out on his kids and me and tell me he got someone else pregnant (allegedly) and now is creating a new life with her. We were just happy and planning family photos.”
“I am beyond blind-sighted by this whole thing. The ultimate betrayal is not even the word,” Nikki added. “My daughter is not even 2 months old, and dealing with this and postpartum is very hard. Please pray for me & my healing, as I am confident that I will get through this. I have to be strong for my kids, but I have absolutely no words. Karma is real and God don’t like ugly. I hope it was worth losing his family.”
That “someone else” was widely believed to be Rashida Nicole. Fast-forward a few months, and it’s now Rashida who appears to be facing her own heartbreak, as her husband files for divorce while she’s carrying their unborn child.
