A clip from Charlie Kirk’s past has resurfaced online, reigniting a heated debate surrounding Nicki Minaj and her relationship with his widow, Erika Kirk.
The video features conservative activist Charlie Kirk critiquing Nicki Minaj alongside Cardi B, calling them “not good role models” for young Black girls. This old footage is stirring up conversation once again, especially after Nicki’s unexpected appearance at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest, where she shared the stage with Erika Kirk, Charlie Kirk’s widow, showcasing a surprising political alliance.
Nicki Minaj took the audience by surprise at the Arizona event. Known for keeping her political views under wraps, she engaged in a lively Q&A session with Erika Kirk, passionately discussing her faith, her personal beliefs, and what she described as the persecution of Christians in Nigeria. She didn’t shy away from critiquing California Governor Gavin Newsom either, calling him “Newscum,” a jab that got a big cheer from the crowd.
In an interesting moment, Nicki encouraged young men to embrace traditional masculinity while complimenting former President Donald Trump as “handsome” and “dashing.” The audience responded enthusiastically, giving her a standing ovation. Nicki remained unfazed by the backlash she knew might come her way. “I’m not gonna back down anymore,” she declared, urging everyone to stand firmly by their beliefs, no matter what others think. When questioned about potential backlash from the music industry due to her political views, she casually remarked, “I didn’t notice.”
However, online discussions were hard to miss. Almost instantly after Nicki Minaj’s appearance, debates erupted on platforms like X, Instagram, and TikTok. While some fans praised her for expressing her views and defying labels, others criticized her for aligning with a movement that has often targeted Black artists and culture. The tension intensified further with the old Charlie Kirk video making rounds again.
In that clip, we see Kirk addressing a group of students, stating, “Nicki Minaj, Cardi B… I don’t think those are good role models for 18-year-old Black girls,” before trailing off. This comment became particularly resonant given Nicki’s recent collaboration with Erika on stage. For many, the irony was palpable: here was Nicki celebrated at AmericaFest, yet earlier, Kirk had outright dismissed her positive influence.
Critics began to wonder if Nicki knew about Kirk’s past remarks before agreeing to appear. Supporters, on the other hand, argued that people and movements can change and grow over time.
