On Wednesday, June 4, Teyana Taylor, the queen of visuals, dropped her latest single, “Long Time,” and the accompanying music video is a whole event! Not only does it star the incredible Mufasa: The Lion King actor, Aaron Pierre, but it also features LaKeith Stanfield, setting the stage for what looks like an emotional rollercoaster. This single is just the first taste of her highly anticipated forthcoming visual album, Escape Room, which is set to drop on August 5.
The music video opens with Taylor alongside Stanfield, experiencing what feels like intense flashbacks or unsettling visions of events yet to unfold within the larger Escape Room project. A narrator guides us through her inner thoughts and raw emotions as the scenes dramatically shift. Then, as those intense visions dissipate, Aaron Pierre arrives on the scene, clad in a striking red leather outfit, discovering a red cape and a rose on the ground.
By the end of the video, it’s truly powerful. Taylor is lying unconscious on the ground, and Pierre dramatically lifts her into his arms. As he walks away, carrying her, Taylor reaches out and holds onto his hand. It’s a moment brimming with symbolism, a clear depiction of him bringing her back from the brink.
“Long Time” isn’t just a single; it’s a peek into the Escape Room album, which will also come with an accompanying short film in August. Just last week, Taylor gave us a tantalizing glimpse, releasing the trailer for the short film, which features Pierre as her on-screen love interest, complete with a steamy kissing scene.
According to a release, the short film is designed to be a “visual representation of the album, exploring the ombré effects of life’s journey from the darkness of all aspects of heartbreak to the lightness of healing.”
This album teaser follows earlier dating rumors between Taylor and Pierre, which sparked when they were spotted together at public events, including the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.
