Whoopi Goldberg ignited a storm of controversy after calling for President Donald Trump’s removal from office under the 25th Amendment in response to his combative United Nations General Assembly address.
Speaking on Wednesday’s episode of The View, Goldberg argued that Trump’s remarks showed a troubling lack of seriousness at a moment when world leaders are “really concerned for” the United States.
“He had a chance to deliver much more than what he did, and they don’t consider him to be serious anymore. I’m worried,” Goldberg said, before suggesting that the 25th Amendment — typically reserved for cases of presidential incapacity — should be invoked.

Her fellow co-host Sonny Hostin partly agreed, accusing Trump of lying to the UN about ending wars in pursuit of a Nobel Peace Prize.
The reaction online was swift and polarizing.
Critics blasted Goldberg for hypocrisy, arguing she had overlooked similar concerns about President Joe Biden’s mental fitness during his time in office.
“She was curiously silent during the dementia years of 2021–2025,” one social media user wrote. Another said: “The 25th Amendment has nothing to do with disagreeing with the other party.”
Trump’s Tuesday UN speech fueled the debate. He launched fierce criticism at the organization, accusing it of hiding behind “empty words” while underwriting an “assault on Western countries” through migration policies.
He even declared, “your countries are going to hell,” while demanding an end to “the failed experiment of open borders.”
Technical glitches, including a teleprompter malfunction and a broken escalator, added drama to the speech.
Trump mocked the mishaps, quipping, “These are the two things I got from the United Nations: a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter,” drawing both laughs and criticism.
Goldberg’s remarks have widened an already sharp divide: supporters praised Trump’s blunt tone as refreshing, while detractors viewed it as reckless and dangerous.
The clash underscores how debates over the 25th Amendment — though unlikely to be applied — continue to serve as a political flashpoint in Trump’s presidency.
