Whoopi Goldberg is staying loyal to presidential candidate Joe Biden amid calls for him to step down.
President Joe Biden’s stumbles and gaffes may have generated calls for him to withdraw from the election. However, Whoopi Goldberg says she still supports the 81-year-old.
The calls for Biden’s “step-down campaign” come after his disastrous performance in the first presidential debate on June 27 and an uninterrupted and unedited interview with ABC News on Friday, which did little to allay concerns about the incumbent losing the presidency to presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump.
In a defiant phone call to MSNBC on Monday, President Joe Biden laughed off speculation that he is gravely ill and pushed back against critics across the political and media sectors urging him to step down from the Democratic presidential ticket. He also assured his supporters that he was “not going anywhere.”
“The bottom line here is that we’re not going anywhere,” an energized Biden said on the phone call into Morning Joe, where he spoke directly to hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. “I am not going anywhere. I wouldn’t be running if I didn’t absolutely believe that I am the best candidate to beat Donald Trump in 2024.”
Following Biden’s latest declaration, the prominent Hollywood figure expressed her support for the president.
On The View, moderator Whoopi Goldberg firmly supported the president’s reelection bid.
“I don’t care if he’s pooped his pants. I don’t care if he can’t put a sentence together,” the cohost of ABC’s “The View” said in an episode aired Monday. “Show me he can’t do the job, and then I’ll say, okay, maybe it’s time to go.”
The 68-year-old argued that people should give Biden another chance despite his poor performance in his presidential debate with former President Donald Trump on June 27.
“I have poopy days all the time. I step in so much poo you can’t even imagine. Now, I’m not running the world, but I don’t know anybody who doesn’t step in stuff at some point,” Goldberg added.
However, Goldberg has stated that if Biden fails to perform well in his second debate, she will stop supporting him.
“And if he can’t do what he needs to do for the second debate, I’ll join any crew that says get rid of him.”
The follow-up debate between Trump and Biden is set for September 10.
