Whoopi Goldberg is making waves with her latest venture, the All Women’s Sports Network (AWSN), set to become the world’s first global sports channel dedicated exclusively to women’s athletics.
Announced during her Nov. 6 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Goldberg described AWSN as a platform designed to showcase female athletes from all corners of the world, a revolutionary step in the sports broadcasting industry.
“It’ll be the home for live women’s sports from around the world,” Goldberg told Fallon, envisioning AWSN as a channel committed to comprehensive representation, featuring everything from football, soccer, and basketball to tennis, cricket, and curling. “If a woman is playing it, we’re showing it,” she added.
The launch of AWSN, co-founded by Goldberg and Jungo TV, arrives at a critical time when calls for equal visibility in women’s sports have intensified.
The network will feature major leagues, including UEFA, FIBA, WTA, and WNBL, bringing women’s athletic achievements into the mainstream.
For Goldberg, the idea has been a 16-year journey rooted in her own passion for sports—a passion that, as a young girl, she felt was largely overlooked.
“It always pissed me off,” Goldberg admitted, describing her frustration with the lack of support for female athletes.
Goldberg’s vision goes beyond just broadcasting sports.
She hopes AWSN will inspire and empower the next generation of female athletes globally, aiming to highlight young talent from high school to the professional level.
Part of her vision includes producing baseball-style trading cards that honor rising female athletes, an idea she hopes will help cultivate long-term appreciation for women in sports.
“I feel like that will help us show that athletics, when they’re done brilliantly—it doesn’t matter who’s doing it,” she explained.
AWSN is already gaining traction internationally, having launched in Asia, the Middle East, and on India’s JioTV.
With U.S. broadcasts beginning next week, Goldberg’s network, in partnership with healthcare advocate CommonSpirit, is set to be a game-changer for women’s sports representation.
AWSN will broadcast live and delayed events, filling a major gap in the sports industry and amplifying women’s achievements on a global stage.
