Dymund, a digital creator and mother of five, recently shared her harrowing experience of pregnancy complications on the In My Opinion Podcast.
In an episode titled “Childbirth Experience” (Episode 65), she revealed how the swelling of her pituitary gland during her fifth pregnancy led to temporary blindness—a complication that shocked both the hosts and listeners alike.
The pituitary gland, responsible for hormone production, had become swollen, pressing against her focal point and causing her to lose her eyesight.
“I couldn’t see because it was pressing up against my focal point. Pregnancy in itself—it’s a lot. The amount of ways that your body changes as a woman,” she explained.
Dymund also detailed her battle with hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness that persisted throughout her pregnancy.
“Hyperemesis is like 50,000 times worse [than morning sickness],” she said, describing constant vomiting, weight loss, and hospital visits for IV fluids and medication.
Her fifth pregnancy was the most challenging, and she used her platform to highlight the often-overlooked dangers of pregnancy, particularly for women of color.
“A lot of women, especially women of color, lose their lives during childbirth. Why do you think that is?” she asked, encouraging listeners to reflect on maternal healthcare disparities.
The podcast episode sparked a heartfelt discussion about the risks and sacrifices of pregnancy, with hosts and commenters expressing newfound appreciation for the challenges women endure to bring life into the world.
Dymund’s candid account resonated deeply with viewers, with many praising her resilience and bravery. The podcast captioned the episode, “Mandem, I hope you’re now seeing the risks women go through to bring children into this world. Show them some appreciation in the comments.”
