At a recent campaign rally for Kamala Harris in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Michelle Obama delivered a powerful message that stressed the critical importance of the upcoming election, particularly for women.
Speaking to a crowd of supporters on Oct. 27, 2024, she addressed the frustrations of disillusioned voters while warning against the dangers of disaffection manifesting in harmful voting choices.
Obama acknowledged the anger felt by many regarding the slow pace of change in the country.
“It is reasonable to be frustrated,” she said, recognizing the legitimate feelings of disappointment among voters.
However, she urged them not to let their rage lead to decisions that could have dire consequences for women in their lives.
“Let me warn you, your rage does not exist in a vacuum. If we don’t get this election right, your wife, your daughter, your mother—we as women will become collateral damage to your rage,” she declared, stressing the importance of thoughtful voting.
Obama implored men to reconsider their voting behavior, reminding them that their choices could directly impact the women they care about.
She encouraged women to assert their rights and needs in their relationships, stating:
“We have every right to demand that the men in our lives do better by us.”
Highlighting the importance of independent decision-making, Obama insisted that women’s votes should not be swayed by their partners’ opinions. “Your vote is a private matter,” she stated, urging women to prioritize their needs and those of their loved ones when casting their ballots.
The former First Lady also expressed strong support for Kamala Harris, highlighting her commitment to protecting women’s health rights, including access to emergency care and reproductive health services.
“Kamala will veto any abortion ban or bill that restricts access to contraception or IVF,” Obama promised, reinforcing the notion that Harris’s policies would directly benefit women and families.
Michelle Obama concluded by urging voters to stand with Harris, a candidate she believes embodies decency and compassion.
“This election is about valuing women’s lives,” she reiterated, underscoring the broader implications of the electoral outcome for women’s rights.
