Yung Miami says she’s a proud supporter of the LGBTQ+ Pride community. But many think she’s just “gay-baiting” after critics drugged up her past controversial homophobic tweets.

Rapper Yung Miami of City Girls is demonstrating her support for the LGBTQ+ community by releasing a bold piece of merchandise called “The Gays”.

In association with her “Caresha Please” brand, the certified City Girl selected “The Gays” collection, which consists of clothing and accessories promoting freedom, diversity, inclusion, and acceptance

One of the most prominent groups promoting LGBTQ+ rights and media representation, GLAAD, will receive some sales proceeds from the “The Gays” merchandise. The contribution will help fund LGBTQ+ initiatives.

“In light of gay pride, I wanted to do something for the LGBTQ community. This is a big part of my fan base. I often feel left out, so I wanted to celebrate and dedicate this collection to them to make sure they feel seen and heard,” Yung Miami stated.

But Miami found herself in more hot water after her announcement went viral. Critics objected to the recording artist Quality Control Music’s marketing to the LGBTQ community.

Some people accused her of gay-baiting after dredging up Yung Miami’s past comments about the LGBT community.

In a 2013 tweet, Yung Miami said she would “beat” her son if he displayed gay tendencies.

She clarified her statement on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club with Charlamagne Tha God.

“I didn’t tweet nothing about them [the LGBTQ community],” she said. “I was just talking about my son. I just said that if I saw anything gay in my son, I would beat him.”

She later apologized for those comments, which many people described as homophobic.

“My deepest apologies and heart goes out to those who have seen and were offended by that tweet. The City Girls appreciate all of their support no matter what their sexuality is,” Yung Miami in 2018.
