Zoe Saldaña is on a roll this awards season, adding another trophy to her growing collection. The 46-year-old star snagged the 2025 SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Sunday, February 23, for her work in the Netflix musical Emilia Pérez.
The win, announced at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium, marks her third major trophy this season, following Golden Globe and BAFTA victories, and sets the stage for a potential Oscar coup next month.
“To be in this room is a true honor. This is my community. This is my circus,” Zoe Saldaña began in her speech. “Thank you to SAG and AFTRA, and thank you to my fellow nominees; it was an honor to watch your performances this year. I was deeply moved.”
She continued, “I got my first SAG card in 1998, and I didn’t even know what SAG was, and I am grateful that my mother and my father and my sisters looked it up and helped me educate myself on what it means to be a part of a union that protects me so that I can make a living out of this crazy, crazy industry.”
“I am proud to be a part of a union that allows me to be who I am. I’ve never been questioned where I come from or judged for how I speak or what my pronouns are. Everyone has the right to be who they are. ‘Emilia Perez ‘is about truth and love, and we actors really have to tell stories that are thought-provoking and beautiful and live within the spectrum of artistic freedom.”
Emilia Pérez follows the story of a young woman’s quest for identity and fulfillment, with Saldaña’s character serving as a pivotal guide in her journey. Co-starring Karla Sofía Gascon and Selena Gomez, the film delivers a unique blend of music, drama, and emotion, a perfect showcase for Saldaña’s range and versatility.
The event, broadcast live on Netflix, was presented by the actress Kristen Bell, who received a nomination that evening for her performance in Nobody Wants This. In her introductory speech, she honored the Los Angeles firefighters, several of whom were present, and conveyed her appreciation for their courage during the wildfires.
As the Oscar race looms, audiences everywhere are eager to see if Zoe Saldaña’s awards-season hot streak will continue.
