8-Month-Old Pregnant Teen Shot And Killed By Boyfriend, Infant Fighting for Survival

by Gee NY

The Lansdowne community in Pennsylvania is reeling after the tragic death of 19-year-old Taniyah Bell, who was eight months pregnant with her first child.

Taniyah, affectionately remembered as “Tweety” by her high school cheerleading team, was fatally shot on Nov. 14, 2024. Her boyfriend, Jerelle Williams, has been charged with first-degree murder in her death.

Taniyah’s family describes her as a kind, gentle soul who had recently graduated from Academy Park High School and aspired to become a nurse.

Her life was filled with anticipation for the birth of her daughter, whose due date was Christmas Day. Taniyah’s mother shared that her daughter had been preparing for her baby shower, planned just two weeks after her untimely death, which will now coincide with her funeral.

“She was a great spirit and the sweetest person ever,” Taniyah’s mother said tearfully. “I just wish we could say our last words to her and cheer her on one more time.”

A Devastating Loss

According to Lansdowne Police, Williams told investigators he “blacked out” before using Taniyah’s phone to call 911.

Doctors performed an emergency C-section to save the baby, now named Taniyah Miracle in honor of her mother.

The newborn remains in critical condition at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and the family is fervently praying for her survival.

“I feel like she’s going to be a miracle,” Taniyah’s mother said, standing by the belief that her daughter’s spirit is watching over her granddaughter.

Remembering Taniyah

Family, friends, and members of the community gathered at a vigil held at Academy Park High School to honor Taniyah’s memory.

Balloons were released into the sky, symbolizing the love and prayers for a young woman taken too soon.

Her grandfather expressed his anguish, saying, “I was going to be a pop-pop, a great-grandfather. I was happy, couldn’t wait. Now we’re just praying for a miracle.”

The family has also organized a celebration of life for Taniyah, set to take place next weekend.

Seeking Justice and Healing

The tragedy has left the community grappling with both grief and outrage. Taniyah’s family hopes to see justice served for her senseless death, even as they remain focused on supporting her infant daughter through this critical time.

This heartbreaking loss is evidence of the tragic impact of domestic violence, particularly on young women and their families.
