In a heartbreaking turn of events, eight-year-old Sayra Barros lost her life at the hands of her stepmother, Natiela Barros, in a shocking incident outside Atlanta.
According to authorities from Gwinnett County, Sayra was subjected to severe physical abuse by her stepmother, resulting in her tragic death.
Court documents reveal a distressing account of the events that unfolded on January 30, 2024. Sayra was allegedly beaten by Natiela Barros with a wooden rolling pin multiple times, causing fatal injuries to the young girl.
Despite the severity of the abuse, Natiela Barros failed to seek medical assistance for Sayra, opting instead to contact her husband.
Upon his return home, Sayra’s father, Cledir Mendes Barros, immediately called emergency services and attempted CPR in a desperate bid to save his daughter’s life.
Tragically, Sayra was pronounced dead by EMS officials upon their arrival at the scene.
Both Natiela and Cledir Mendes Barros have been arrested and face charges of murder and child cruelty. Despite appearing before a Gwinnett County judge, bond has been denied for Natiela Barros due to concerns about her potential danger to others.
Sayra’s devastated loved ones are now seeking to repatriate her remains to Cape Verde, Africa, so she can be laid to rest with her family.
