Michelle Obama’s voter mobilization group, When We All Vote, is working to energize Democratic supporters for Kamala Harris, just after Barack Obama took to the campaign trail for the vice president. Despite usually staying away from direct campaigning, the former first lady is engaging liberals with concerts and events through the Party at the Polls initiative, which features prominent Democratic supporters.
These events are being held in seven key swing states, which are expected to play a pivotal role in the outcome of the race between Harris and Donald Trump. A major highlight of When We All Vote’s efforts is a two-day concert in Atlanta on October 26, headlined by Cardi B, Jill Scott, and Earth, Wind & Fire. Registered voters can enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win tickets and flights to attend the show.
Since founding When We All Vote in 2018, Michelle Obama has focused much of her political energy on this organization, aside from making occasional speeches supporting Democrats. The group also organized events during the 2020 and 2022 elections. “At When We All Vote, we believe that voting should be joyful, and celebrating our voices at the polls is something truly worth celebrating,” said the group’s executive director, Beth Lynk.
The organization boasts a roster of high-profile liberal celebrities as co-chairs, including Steph Curry, Selena Gomez, Tom Hanks, Jennifer Lopez, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Megan Rapinoe, and Kerry Washington. Lynk also emphasized, “The election doesn’t start on Election Day—it ends on Election Day. With our Parties at the Polls, we encourage and celebrate early voting.”
Meanwhile, Barack Obama recently returned to the campaign scene, delivering a speech at the University of Pittsburgh where he criticized Trump as being out of touch and unable to lead meaningful change. He described Trump as a “bumbling” billionaire who “hasn’t stopped complaining about his problems since he came down the golden escalator nine years ago.”
