Doechii is having a major moment, and the world is here for it! The rising star, who has been nominated for not one but four Grammy Awards, shared her thoughts at the Femme It Forward, Give Her FlowHERS Awards Gala.
Following a hectic 2023, where she landed at No. 1 on the Billboard charts for the first time, starred with Dominic Fike in an A24 film, opened for Beyoncé, and performed at two concerts at Amalie Arena, Tampa’s Swamp Princess received her inaugural Grammy nominations.
The Recording Academy revealed the complete list of nominees for the 67th annual Grammy Awards on Friday, November 8, indicating that Doechii from Top Dawg Entertainment has received four nominations.
On the red carpet at the Femme It Forward awards, a reporter asked Doechii about her groundbreaking nominations, emphasizing the unique feat of earning such recognition for a mixtape. The reporter asked, “Who do you know gets nominated off a mixtape? Walk me through it—how does it feel right now?”
Doechii’s response was nothing short of poetic: “It feels incredible. Honestly, it feels like I’m having sort of a déjà vu. It feels like I’ve been here before like I’ve received this before. So, I feel aligned.”
Doechii’s Grammy nods are especially significant because they come from a mixtape project, a rarity in the music industry. While most Grammy nominees are recognized for full-length studio albums, Doechii’s ability to break through with a mixtape underscores her talent and her unique space in the music world.
According to the Florida Native, her 19-track Alligator Bites Never Heal isn’t an album. She’s adamant about calling it a mixtape.
In addition to celebrating her Grammy nominations, Doechii was among the honorees at the Give Her FlowHERS Awards Gala, an event dedicated to recognizing the contributions of women in music and entertainment.
“Thank you @FemmeItForward for honoring me with the Visionary Award and giving me my flowers while I can smell them 💐When God gives you a vision, you have to have unwavering faith in carrying that vision out, and sometimes that means believing in a reality that doesn’t exist yet. That’s what being a true visionary means to me.. sometimes it’s painting blind, and sometimes it’s creating your own color pallet! Stay the course and carry out God’s mission regardless. Leap, and the net will appear. #GiveHerFlowHERS,” Doechii caption photos and videos on her Instagram.
