by Gee NY

Acclaimed actress Lynn Whitfield delivered an impassioned and uplifting tribute to Black women at the NAACP Awards, sharing her deep appreciation for the strength, resilience, and beauty of Black womanhood.

In a moment that resonated across the audience and beyond, Whitfield spoke candidly about the unique challenges and contributions of Black women throughout history and today.

“I have to tell you, if God himself came down and asked me if you could be anything, anything that you want to be, I would have to say, God, please let me continue to be a Black woman,” Whitfield declared.

Acknowledging the burdens Black women often carry, she noted:

“It’s not always easy for us. We’re overworked with high expectations. Everybody thinks we can withstand so much, but I tell you, what we bring to this earth in the way of our nurturing, in the way of our sexiness and our earthiness and our sassiness, and yes, sometimes our fussiness, but what we contribute to this earth has made the earth a much better place.”

Her words served as both an affirmation and a call to recognition for Black women, whose impact on culture, history, and society is undeniable. Whitfield also reminded the audience of an undeniable truth:

“If you look back, you will see that the original DNA of all mankind is an African woman. That is facts, hands down. So you are all of it, all there is. You are, that you are, that you are, that we are. We are Black women, and we make it all better. I love you.”

Her passionate speech was met with admiration and praise online.

For many social media users, Whitfield’s words add to the ongoing conversations about visibility, respect, and appreciation for Black women’s contributions across all fields, from entertainment to activism and beyond.
