Kash Doll’s new boo, ZaDarius Smith, has her glowing, bare-faced, and unapologetically natural, which has caused the internet to go into a full-blown debate.

The Detroit rapper, who is typically known for her full glam and sleek hairstyles, has been stepping out with a bare face and her natural hair since she started dating NFL player Za’Darius Smith. While many fans are loving her softer aesthetic, some are questioning the reason behind the sudden shift.

In a recent chat with The Shade Room, Kash got real about her softer look. “My man does not want me to wear any makeup,” she said, smiling but serious.

To be fair, Kash didn’t sound insecure or unsure about the switch. “I always embraced it,” she added. “I’m not conceited or anything, but I do know I look good without it. I’m confident with myself.”

Still, that confidence got a side-eye moment in the same convo when the interviewer told her she looked good regardless. Kash raised an eyebrow before tossing the compliment right back: “I love your hair and makeup, you look so pretty. I couldn’t get my makeup done today.”

And while the change may seem minor to some, a little less powder here, a little more curl there, others are clocking the transformation in real time. One recent Instagram post from a NASCAR event showed Kash rocking her natural hair, even as the humidity had her hair behaving as it often does with black hair.

The social media reactions were like a mixed bag of Hot Cheetos and trail mix.

On one side, folks are loving it. “That man got her going natural,” one person wrote, clearly vibing with the new energy.

But others are throwing flags on the play, metaphorically and literally. Critics are raising eyebrows at the fact that this change seems to be at his request, not hers. And that, for many, feels like a red flag wrapped in good intentions.

“If she said she wants to be natural, that’s one thing,” one user wrote on Threads. “She specifically said it’s her man’s wishes. She didn’t say it’s hers. That is what bothers people.”

Another chimed in, “If a man meets you a certain way and tries to tone you down, red flag. Because you met me this way.”

What do you think, is this glow-up from the inside out, or is sis toning herself down for a man?

Let’s talk about it.
