Summer Walker’s latest video for “FMT” is spiritually rich. The R&B songstress is giving fans another reason to explore her recently released double album, Finally Over It, which came out on November 14.

In this project, she goes beyond just singing about moving on; she embodies it. The “FMT” video, directed by Child., beautifully integrates elements of African spiritualism. It opens with Summer being guided by elders as she prepares for a ritual bath. An intimate act that represents renewal, healing, and letting go of emotional burdens. The atmosphere is quiet yet impactful, with purposeful movements and meaningful details.

This visual narrative contrasts with the song itself, a gentle ballad with soft guitar accompaniment where Summer candidly reflects on her past choices in love. “F*ck my type,” she sings, questioning her attraction to someone who won’t treat her well. These lyrics resonate even deeper when paired with imagery of spiritual cleansing and guidance. The visuals invite viewers to take a moment, breathe, and contemplate.

Finally Over It marks the conclusion of Summer’s beloved Over It trilogy, which began in 2019 and continued with Still Over It in 2021. The new album features a playful wedding theme.

In her Instagram updates about the project’s creation, Summer shared her mental journey, stating, “I came out of my funk. I’m gonna live life to the fullest and get everything I deserve. It’s so freeing, and I can finally take the baggage off and just be happy.”

Throughout the 18 tracks, she reviews her romantic history with honesty and a touch of humor. She is weary, direct, and has stopped dismissing her intuition.

While the album doesn’t feature her earlier song “Heart of a Woman,” fans are already drawn to “FMT” and its captivating video. The spiritual themes, the healing vibes, the presence of elders, and the water scenes all convey Summer reclaiming aspects of herself that she had previously lost.
