Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett poured millions into voter outreach and campaign infrastructure during her unsuccessful Texas Senate primary run, according to newly reviewed campaign finance records, but her spending was ultimately dwarfed by the massive advertising blitz mounted by rival James Talarico.
Records covering December 2025 through February 2026 show Crockett’s campaign brought in $8,577,757.47 in receipts, including $3,682,885.41 from individual donors. Over the same period, her campaign reported $5,092,872.38 in expenditures and $17,297.87 in contribution refunds.
A closer look at the spending shows Crockett’s campaign leaned heavily on direct voter outreach and campaign operations rather than large-scale advertising. The campaign spent more than $275,000 with True Blue Digital for advertising and more than $200,000 on text message services aimed at contacting potential voters. Additional expenditures included about $40,000 for consultants, $20,000 for website services, and roughly $6,000 for media production.
Operational costs rounded out the spending ledger. Records show approximately $10,000 for printing, $1,200 for catering, $1,800 for security services, and $528 at a high-end Texas restaurant, Winsome Prime. Despite the loss, Crockett’s campaign still reported $3,484,885.09 in cash on hand at the end of the filing period.
By comparison, Talarico’s campaign war chest was significantly larger. The Democratic state lawmaker reported raising more than $20,683,458.89 and spending $15,848,257.94 during the same stretch. A major share of those expenditures went toward media and fundraising efforts, including roughly $1 million spent on digital fundraising alone.
The financial gap highlights the scale of the challenge Crockett faced in the crowded Democratic primary. Crockett, a prominent progressive voice in Congress known for her sharp criticism of Republican leadership and the Trump administration, had built a national profile in recent years. Her campaign emphasized grassroots outreach and direct engagement with voters, strategies reflected in the campaign’s spending on texting and digital communication tools.
Still, Talarico’s overwhelming spending on advertising helped dominate the political conversation across Texas, a factor analysts say likely played a decisive role in shaping voter awareness in the high-profile race.
