Candace Owens has sparked fresh controversy with a new claim about the assassination of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA.
The conservative commentator is asserting that the U.S. military was involved in Kirk’s September shooting. Owens posted the allegation on her Instagram Stories on Dec. 9, saying she received an email from someone identifying as a member of the U.S. armed forces.
Owens wrote, “It feels like today will be the day that the government can no longer deny it. Charlie Kirk was assassinated and our military was involved,” presenting the unverified email as a turning point in what she describes as her ongoing investigation.

The claim comes three months after Kirk was fatally shot at a speaking event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10. Investigators arrested 22‑year‑old Tyler James Robinson at the scene, and prosecutors have charged him with aggravated murder and other counts, with authorities describing the shooting as a lone‑gunman attack.
Owens’ allegation marks the latest in a series of unsubstantiated theories she has circulated about the case, including suggestions of betrayal within Turning Point USA and even past claims involving foreign actors. None of these have been backed by evidence, and no law‑enforcement agency has corroborated Owens’ assertions regarding military involvement.
Her comments, the current one and others in the past, have fueled debate and deepened existing divisions across political media circles. Critics argue that introducing unproven claims about U.S. military involvement can mislead the public and distract from the formal investigation. At the same time, some of her followers have shared the story broadly on social platforms.
Officials have maintained that the investigation remains focused on the evidence tied to Robinson, and the Department of Justice has not responded to Owens’ latest accusation.
Analysts stress that extraordinary claims require concrete proof — something that has not yet been presented in this case.
The ongoing public discourse highlights the challenges facing the U.S. as high‑profile violent incidents become entangled with political narratives, conspiracy theories, and media amplification, complicating efforts to establish facts amid emotional national reactions.
