In a candid Instagram post, singer-songwriter Ari Lennox announced her decision to leave social media permanently, citing a toxic and codependent relationship with the platforms.

The 32-year-old artist, known for her soulful voice and critically acclaimed debut album Shea Butter Baby, plans to delete her Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok accounts on December 18, coinciding with her two-year sobriety anniversary.

“I’m working on a plan to transition off of social media for good,” Lennox wrote. “I don’t believe I’ll ever mature and be happy as long as I have it. My happiness is worth more to me than using these platforms to promote.”

She expressed that the fear of losing brand deals and music sales no longer holds her captive, emphasizing the need for freedom and creativity outside the confines of social media.

Lennox elaborated on her struggles with the constant pressures of online life, stating:

“I’m just not happy nor thriving here.”

She aims to reclaim her well-being and has promised to share her music and creative endeavors through other platforms, including her YouTube channel and website, arilennox.com.

The Grammy-nominated artist also reassured her fans, affectionately referring to them as “my beautiful fans,” that she remains committed to her music career.

“I’ll be good and I’m excited for this journey,” she added, while promoting her upcoming single “Smoke,” set to release on Oct. 18.
