Cardi B has cleared the air about why she read her recent campaign speech for Vice President Kamala Harris from her phone. Cardi’s direct response comes hot on the heels of Elon Musk calling her a “puppet” for showing support to politicians he deemed insincere.
The political arena intensified this weekend as Cardi B reacted to Elon Musk’s comments regarding her presence at a Harris for President rally in Milwaukee on November 1.
Cardi B experienced a technical issue during Kamala Harris’ rally in Milwaukee on Friday. While speaking to the audience at the lavish event, the 32-year-old encountered a problem with the teleprompter that postponed her speech. Surprised by the incident, she expressed her fluster by informing the crowd that she was feeling “a little nervous.”
The I Like It rapper struggled with her speech, admitting she needed “patience” for the next two minutes until the issue was resolved.
A staff member eventually offered Cardi a cell phone, enabling her to read her speech. “I took my time writing this speech, so I’m going to make sure I deliver it right,” she said with humility as she began her speech.
Elon Musk’s remarks came after he posted a video of Cardi B at the Democratic rally held at the Wisconsin State Fair Exposition Center.
Captioning the post, the billionaire businessman wrote, “Another puppet who can’t even talk without being fed the words. The Kamala campaign has no authenticity or true empathy.”
Cardi B promptly reacted with her own statement on X, dismissing Musk’s claims and directly challenging his understanding of many Americans’ struggles.
“I’m not a puppet, Elon,” she wrote. “I’m a daughter of two immigrant parents that had to work their a** off to provide for me! I’m a product of welfare, I’m a product of section 8, I’m a product of poverty, and I’m a product of what happens when the system is set up against you.” She added pointedly, “But you don’t know nothing about that. You don’t know not one thing about the American struggle.
“PS fix my algorithm,” Cardi B ordered.
Again, the mother of three went live on Instagram following her response to Elon Musk, sharing how much effort she put into her speech and clarifying why she resorted to reading from her phone.
“I worked so hard on my speech. And a lot of you are talking about why you have to read from a phone. I had to write that down because I’m 32 years old and have three kids. My mind be erasing stuff.”
