Chicago’s Hip-Hop Violinist Windy Indie Is Carving Her Own Path—One Self-Made Concert at a Time

by Gee NY

She’s not waiting on permission, co-signs, or a record deal—Windy Indie is stringing together a legacy of her own making.

Known across Chicago and beyond as the city’s premier hip-hop violinist, Windy Indie has turned hustle, faith, and raw talent into a movement that bridges the gap between classical roots and urban innovation.

Raised on Chicago’s West Side, Windy Indie picked up her first violin in the sixth grade at KIPP Ascend Charter School. The donated instrument wasn’t just a hobby—it became a calling. Classically trained by Robert Fisher of the Chicago Sinfonietta Orchestra, she honed her sound in the S.E.E.D. quartet.

But Windy’s path has never followed tradition.

With no orchestra behind her and no mainstream machine backing her, she’s built a brand and platform from the ground up.

Today, Windy Indie blends gospel, hip-hop, jazz, and classical into her performances, embodying a fusion genre that’s as Chicago as it is globally resonant. A proud alum of Lane Tech College Prep and a current student in City Colleges’ Music Education program, she continues to evolve as an artist and educator.

Her work reflects a deep commitment to both artistry and community—anchored by her faith in Jesus Christ and a heart for youth empowerment.

From local stages like the House of Blues and Chicago’s Blues Festival to national television spots with three appearances on Fox’s Empire, Windy Indie has made her mark. Most recently, she self-produced and headlined her own concert on March 30, 2025, showcasing her music and message without industry gatekeepers.

A natural teacher raised in a family of educators, Windy Indie now serves as a violin instructor, bringing her passion for music to schools and youth programs across the city. Her dream? To open a music school rooted in philanthropy and love—a space where art can heal, inspire, and transform.

Through all her accomplishments, she credits one source: God.

“Windy Indie is the definition of faith, hustle, and self-made brilliance,” said one local fan. “She didn’t wait for anyone to hand her a platform—she built it.”

Chicago’s hip-hop violinist is defying expectations and redefining what’s possible with a bow and strings!
